About Me

My Background

I'm Ethan! I'm currently located in the Greater Seattle Area but grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm 24 years old and have loved puzzles, math, and problem solving for as long as I can remember. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics in Dec 2022.

My Technical Background

I've been interested in computers and programming forever. From writing HTML and CSS from scratch on Windows XP in elementary school, to click and drag programming in middle school, I've loved creating things since I was a child. In highschool, I started taking it more seriously with AP Computer Science. I released an iOS app at 16. Since then, I've gone through and graduated from the Computer Science program at the University of Utah. Professionally, I have been working as a full stack developer since March 2020. I've worked in the Salesforce stack and the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React, and Node.js). On the side, my main projects have been developing games (primarily in Godot) and working on my home lab.

In my career, I have worked closely with clients and executives to architect, design, maintain, build, and scale B2B SaaS products. Having designed Git workflows, architected and built ordering platforms, onboarding systems, and production CRM integrations, I have been vital in the creation of these services. Further, handling IT monitoring, infrastructure scaling, and quick fix turn around times, I have managed scaling of SaaS effectively.

My Passions & Goals

From minesweeper and 3D Pinball on Windows XP, to playing Warcraft III with my dad, to struggling against dungeons in The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass late into the night, games have always been my passion since I was young. These days, indie roguelikes and metroidvanias have my heart. I love games with challenges, unique mechanics, and engrossing style.

I love solving problems and creating effective, maintainable systems. However, my true passion and largest goals are to make games. I have had so many ideas that I would love to find the time to create and flush out. I'm very interested in computer graphics and creating unique experiences from mechanics to characters and world design. My favorite classes in college were Computer Graphics and Artificial Intelligence. I would love to dive into those fields heavily and be creative with my work. I love the math behind Computer Graphics and have started some shader/VFX courses in my free time.
